Up to 20 m; crownrounded-pyramidal; barkashy-grey, flaking

to leave yellowish patches. Twigsglabrous,grey only inthefirst year, then brown. Buds not resinous. Leaves 60-90 x1- 5 mm, in pairs, rigid, more orlesspungent, with 2-3 layers ofhypodermal cells; resin-canals 2- 11, median. Cone 7-7 x 2- 5 cm, slightly shining; apophysisflat, withvery short, straightmucro. Seed c. 7 mm; wing c. 25 mm. • Mountains of C. part of Balkan peninsula. Al GrJu.
