Rhizome-scales 3-6 mm, lanceolate. New leaves produced in early summer; leaves lanceolate to linear-lanceolate; pinnae obtuse or somewhat acute, the basal pair not projecting forward; secondary veins with 1 -3 (-4) bifurcations. Sori orbicular; paraphyses absent; annulus with 10-15(-20) indurated cells. 2/z= 148. Most of Europe except the extreme north and south, only on mountains in the south. All except BI Co Cr Sa Sb Si Tu.
