Plant 0-7- 2- 5 cm in diameter, suborbicular, olive-green or brownish. Upper lobe of leaf 1 - 5 x 0-7— 1- 1 mm, subacute, with a very narrow membranousmargin. Massulae 3-6; giochidia septate. Naturalized in W., C. & S. Europe. [Be Cz Ga Ge Ho Hs Hu It Lu Rm.] (America.)

A. pinnata R.Br., Prodr. FI. Nov. Holland. 167 (1810), a native of S. Africa and S.E. Asia, which has massulae without giochidia, is occasionally seen as a casual.
