Up to 80 m; trunk stout. Young twigs densely covered with reddish pubescence; buds resinous only at apex. Leaves on the upper surface of the twigs appressed and curving upwards, not leaving a parting. Leaves 10-35 x 1- 1 - 5 mm, obtuse; resin-canals marginal. Cones 12-20 x 5-8 cm; bracts long-exserted and deflexed, almost completely concealing the cone. Planted for timber in N. & W. Europe. [Br Da Ge Hb No.] (IF. North America.)
