Aquatic; stem 2-lobed. Leaves 8-25(-40) cm x 3-5 mm, erect or rarely patent and recurved, coarse, subterete, tapering to apex; stomata usually absent; membranous margin wide at base, abruptly narrowing above sporangium; ligule short, triangular, often 3-lobed. Sporangium only partially covered by velum; megaspores 530- 700/2, rugose; microspores yellow-brown, smooth or with fine irregular furrows. 2n —c. 110. Up to 8 m deep in lakes and pools . dp N. & C.
