Plants from Iceland have been referred to the North American species I. braunii Durieu , Bull. Soc. Bot. Fr. 11: 101 (1864) non Unger ( I. echinospora subsp. nutricata var. braunii (Durieu) A. & D. Love). Further investigation is needed.
