Like 1 but leaves 5-15 cm, subulate, compressed, more often patent or recurved; megaspores 440-550/2, with long, narrow spines. In —22,> 100. In more oligotrophic waters than 1. ® N. & C. Plants from Iceland have been referred to the North American species I. braunii Durieu , Bull. Soc. Bot. Fr. 11: 101 (1864) non Unger ( I. echinospora subsp. nutricata var. braunii (Durieu) A. & D. Love). Further investigation is needed.
