Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed on 2 and 4 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng region; specimens photographed at Lissenung Island , Kavieng region by Dietmar Amon on 11 June 2009 and 7 Nov. 2009 ; others photographed at St. KVG25 (off southeastern New Hanover) by Serge Andréfouët on 22 Aug. 2014 .
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—Cocos-Keeling Islands (eastern Indian Ocean) and Indonesia east to Marshall Islands and Samoa, north to southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found among branching coral, in coastal, lagoon and seaward reefs, 1–50 m depth. Marine.
