Type Locality. Gowchar (Gauchar) (27.6992°N, 85.3567°E) near Kathmandu , Bagmati Province, Nepal GoogleMaps .

Distribution in Nepal: Bagmati Province, Kavrepalanchowk District, Roshi Khola, Panauti, Cha Khola, Khasre; Kathmandu District, Gowchar, Kathmandu ( Michaelsen 1907; Stephenson 1923; Nesemann et al. 2007).

Distribution elsewhere: Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia (Java), Myanmar, and Pakistan ( Mandal et al. 2010; Ahmed et al. 2020; Blakemore et al. 2014; Narayanan et al. 2024).

Habitat: Cropland, mud sediment, mixed-forest, ponds, riverbank ( Nesemann et al. 2007; Miglani et al. 2022).

Ecology: Endogeic ( Sinha et al. 2003; Chaudhary et al. 2008; Miglani et al. 2022).

Remarks: It was considered endemic to Nepal ( Michaelsen, 1907; 1908) and collected by R.A. Hodgart and others from Roshi Khola at 1410 m asl and Cha Khola, Khasre, and Gowchar (currently Tribhuvan International Airport area), Kathmandu. Later, it was recorded in China, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Pakistan ( Blakemore et al. 2014). Now, known to be widespread all over the Himalayan region (Gate 1972).
