Distribution: Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi ( Bakhuizen van den Brink, 1943).

Notes: Maxwell (1978) included M. ferrata Craib from Thailand as a variety of M. laurifolia . However, since M. ferrata has a different leaf thickness and narrow lateral veins, it is considered a different species.
