Distribution: Thailand, Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Java, Lesser Sunda Islands ( Renner et al., 2001).
Notes: It has not been possible to locate Jack’s own collection of M. alpestris from Sumatra in any herbaria consulted, therefore the neotype is chosen here from a locality close to the original type from BO. Medinilla verrucosa and M. javanensis are considered as synonyms of M. alpestris here based on morphological similarity, including all the species that were previously synonymized under them ( Bakhuizen van den Brink, 1943).
