The species was described in Thunberg (1813: 380) and Thunberg (1815: 115), the former with a reference to the latter work (see Discussion). Schönherr (1845: 308) referred to the name but did not see the specimen. The name is a junior primary homonym (not Olivier 1807) and applies to a species of Isorhynchus Schönherr in Ceutorhynchinae , most likely I. candidulus (Gyllenhaal, 1935) (E. Colonnelli, pers. com.). A needed revision of the genus is hampered by the unresolved fate of the original material lent to Schönherr (see also Marshall 1904: 7). One specimen.
