Andrena (Taeniandrena) afzeliella (Kirby, 1802) View in CoL
SHORT DESCRIPTION: This cryptic species from the Taeniandrena subgenus is very hard to distinguish from the other species in its subgenus, like A. ovatula (Kirby, 1802) . For reliable identification, we refer to WOOD (2023).
DISTRIBUTION IN EUROPE: Taxonomic issues regarding the species from the Taeniandrena subgenus have only recently been resolved. Andrena afzeliella occurs in spatial sympatry with the closely resembling A. ovatula (Kirby, 1802) ( WOOD, 2023) .
EU RED LIST STATUS: This taxon was not recognised when NIETO et al. (2014) published the European Red List ( WOOD, 2023).
ORIGIN OF RECORDS:
- Since its occurrence in Belgium has been established by T.J. Wood, the species has been found in many locations throughout the country. Both historical and recent specimens ( WOOD, 2023; approved observations on https://waarnemingen.be/species/803630/) have been identified. The same applies for the Netherlands (approved observations on https://waarneming.nl/species/803630/).
COMMENTS:
- This species was descripted as a new species for Belgium in WOod (2023).
