Diagnosis. See Hahn & Brauckmann (1975: 307).
Remarks. Engel & Morris (1980; 1989) assigned a number of Australian Carbonocoryphe species to the subgenera C. ( Aprathia) and C. ( Winterbergia). Three of these species are considered nomen dubium (discussed below). The species C.? ( A.?) rockhamptonensis and C.? ( W.?) waterhousei have been tentatively retained within the genus. These classifications have been thought to be suspect by Hahn (pers. comm. 2011); see below for remarks on the classification of these species within Carbonocoryphe .
Subgenera Included. Carbonocoryphe ( Carbonocoryphe) Richter & Richter 1950 , Carbonocoryphe ( Aprathia) Hahn & Brauckmann 1975 , Carbonocoryphe ( Winterbergia) Hahn & Brauckmann 1975 . Age and distribution. Tournaisian to Viséan in Australia, Europe and North America (Brezinski 1998; Hahn & Hahn 1969; Engel & Morris 1980).
