Front of head ¯attened; antennae of male usually reaching posterolateral angle of pronotum when laid alongside; pronotum with raised bead along posterior margin blending with smooth midline area; inner margin of protrochanter with distinct tooth; profemur of male slightly swollen on inner margin without obsolete longitudinal carina; protibia of male arcuate, usually with row of small teeth; metatarsus with tarsomere 1 subequal in length to 2 and 3 combined and longer than 5; metathoracic wing without distinct radiomedial crossvein, cubitoanal crossvein with or without spur, 1st A vein not or but weakly connected to 2nd A vein, anal cell present.

Due to the broad intraspeci®c variation of some of the species in the subgenus Gyascutus , some specimens will be di cult to key.
