Steleops viridis sp. nov.

( Figs 173–185 View FIGURES 173–178 View FIGURES 179–185 )

Diagnosis. Belonging to group buitrerensis . Unlike the other species of the group, it has a broadened head, with a ratio of width under the compound eyes/width of the postclypeus less than 1.8 ( Fig. 175 View FIGURES 173–178 ), forewing hyaline, with Rs-M fused at one point ( Fig. 166 View FIGURES 166–172 ); hypandrium with left margin of medial band with more than 20 teeth with a rounded apex ( Fig. 177 View FIGURES 173–178 ).

Male. Color (in slide). Head ( Fig. 175 View FIGURES 173–178 ) dark brown with light cream genae and vertex, labrum and clypeus brown. Light green to brown compound eyes. Forewing hyalines ( Fig. 173 View FIGURES 173–178 ), basally light brown, veins brown. Hindwings ( Fig. 174 View FIGURES 173–178 ) hyaline, veins brown. Epiproct and paraprocts light brown. Hypandrium brown.

Morphology. As in diagnosis, plus the following: Head ( Fig. 175 View FIGURES 173–178 ): H/MxW: 1.12; compound eyes large, pedunculated, H/D: 2.47; IO/MxW: 0.73. Vertex slightly concave, V–shaped wide, below upper level of compound eyes. Outer cusp of lacinial tips with five denticles; Mx4/Mx2: 1.28. Forewings ( Fig. 173 View FIGURES 173–178 ): L/W: 2.71. Pterostigma pedunculated: lp/wp: 4.00, areola postica: al/ah: 1.62. Hindwings ( Fig. 174 View FIGURES 173–178 ): l/w: 2.82. Hypandrium ( Fig. 177 View FIGURES 173–178 ) asymmetrical, with medial band of numerous setae on tubercles arranged longitudinally; with teeth of uniform size on the left side of the medial band and on the distal part of the right side, with a pair of lateromedial stake-shaped projections. Phallosome ( Fig. 178 View FIGURES 173–178 ) rhomboid, asymmetric, with processes like triangular parameres, the one on the right side being larger than the left and partially fused to the aedeagus; aedeagus apically acuminate and curved to the right. Epiproct lost. Paraprocts ( Fig. 176 View FIGURES 173–178 ) oval with straight apical process, shorter than the rest of the paraproct, ending in a small, curved hook, sensory fields with 42 trichobothria on basal rosettes.

Measurements (microns). FW: 4600, HW: 3175, F: 1075, T: 2175, t1: 850, t2: 225, ctt1: 35, f1: 1050, f2: 1150, Mx4: 230, IO: 550, d: 260, D: 340, IO/d: 2.12, PO: 0.76

Female. Color (on plate). Head as in the male ( Fig. 174 View FIGURES 173–178 ). Forewing ( Fig. 172 View FIGURES 166–172 ) with diagonal brown spots from the costa vein at the level of the nodus to the CuP vein, other pale brown spots in the apical area of the pterostigma, basal area of the anal cell and cell r1, r5, m1- m4; veins brown. Epiproct, paraprocts, valves and subgenital plate pale brown. IX sternum hyaline.

Morphology. As in diagnosis, plus the following: Head ( Fig. 181 View FIGURES 179–185 ): H/MxW: 1.24; compound eyes large, pedunculated, H/D: 2.69; IO/MxW: 0.76. Vertex V–shaped wide, below upper level of compound eyes. Outer cusp of lacinial tips with seven denticles; Mx4/Mx2: 1.24. Forewings ( Fig. 179 View FIGURES 179–185 ): L/W: 2.75. Pterostigma: lp/wp: 3.66, areola postica: al/ah: 1.35. Hindwings ( Fig. 180 View FIGURES 179–185 ): l/w: 3.00. Subgenital plate basally widened, distally abruptly narrowed ( Fig. 177 View FIGURES 173–178 ), with abundant setae as illustrated. Gonapophyses ( Fig. 185 View FIGURES 179–185 ) with long and narrow ventral valve, with acuminate and elongated terminal process and spines as illustrated; subrectangular, dorsal valve with narrow and short lateroapical process, oval external valve without medial-apical process, with macrosetae as illustrated. Ninth sternum trapezoidal, anterior margin convex, posterior margin sub straight, gonopore circular ( Fig. 185 View FIGURES 179–185 ). Epiproct ( Fig. 183 View FIGURES 179–185 ) triangular-shaped, with rounded apex and macrosetae and setae, as illustrated.
