Steleops juliani sp. nov. Male
( Figs 152–158 View FIGURES 152-158 )
Diagnosis. With the general characteristics of the buitrerensis group. Due to the general shape of the hypandrium and phallosome it is more closely related to S. meremberg sp. nov., but unlike this one it presents the phallobase somewhat pointed and curved upwards basally ( Fig. 158 View FIGURES 152-158 ), right paramere of phallosome with few striae and the forewing with brown spots in anal, cup and cua cells.
Male. Color (in plate and 80% ethanol). Head ( Fig. 154 View FIGURES 152-158 ) with wide dark brown spots from the basal margin of the compound eyes to the frontal area and epistomal suture, frons dark brown, clypeus and labrum brown, genae, postgenae and subgenae cream. Ochre to black compound eyes. Thorax brown, with small cream spots. Tergal lobes of meso- and metathorax brown, with cream spots. Thoracic pleura brown, with small cream spots. Forewing ( Fig. 152 View FIGURES 152-158 ) mostly hyalines, with small brown spots in anal, cup and cua cells, pterostigma with apical pale brown spot, apex of cells r5 and m1 with arch-shaped pale brown spot, veins brown, with few hyaline or pale areas. Hindwings ( Fig. 154 View FIGURES 152-158 ) hyalines, veins brown. Legs cream. Epiproct, paraprocts and phallosome pale brown to light brown. Hypandrium brown. Legs pale brown. Epiproct, paraprocts and phallosome pale brown to light brown. Hypandrium brown. Legs pale brown.
Morphology. As in diagnosis, plus the following: Head ( Fig. 154 View FIGURES 152-158 ): H/MxW: 1.05; compound eyes large, pedunculated, H/D: 2.00; IO/MxW: 0.77. Vertex V–shaped wide, below upper level of compound eyes. Outer cusp of lacinial tips with five denticles; Mx4/Mx2: 1.26. Forewings ( Fig. 152 View FIGURES 152-158 ): L/W: 2.70. Pterostigma: lp/wp: 3.69, areola postica: al/ah: 1.26. Hindwings ( Fig. 153 View FIGURES 152-158 ): l/w: 2.81. Hypandrium ( Fig. 157 View FIGURES 152-158 ) asymmetrical, with medial area of numerous setae on tubercles arranged longitudinally, with teeth of uniform size on the left margin of the medial area, right margin with small and abundant stretch marks. Phallosome ( Fig. 158 View FIGURES 152-158 ) rhomboid, asymmetric, with right lobular paramere and with few striae, aedeagus narrower apically and curved to the right, phallobase somewhat pointed and curved upwards basally. Epiproct pyriform, with setae and abundant spicules as illustrated ( Fig. 155 View FIGURES 152-158 ). Paraprocts ( Fig. 156 View FIGURES 152-158 ) oval with abundant microspicules, straight apical process, shorter than the rest of the paraproct, ending in a small, curved hook, sensory fields with 19 trichobothria on basal rosettes.
