Gymnodoris sp. Q

( Fig. 9H View FIGURE 9 )

Material examined. New Caledonia: North Province: Koumac ( 20°17.3'S, 164°18.0'E), 0 m depth [Koumac 2.1 Expedition, stn. KM515 , mangrove forest], 10 Sep 2018, 1 specimen 11 mm preserved length (MNHN-IM-2019- 26521, isolate JD57) GoogleMaps .

Description. Body oval to elongate, with numerous, rounded tubercles ( Fig. 9H View FIGURE 9 ). Velum slightly differentiated with irregular tubercles; notal rim absent, velum merges with notum behind rhinophores. Posterior end of foot broad, tapering into blunt “tail.” Color translucent white, with orange-yellow tubercles; internal organs visible through body wall as brown, white masses; white glandular structure at posterior end. Rhinophores very elongated, narrow, tentacular, with 6 lamellae, translucent white. Gill with 9 large, bipinnate, yellow leaves, arranged in a circle around anus. Foot wider than notum, translucent white; oral tentacles absent.

Phylogenetic position. The phylogenetic position of Gymnodoris sp. Q is poorly supported ( Fig. 1A View FIGURE 1 ).

Remarks. This undescribed species, found also in mangrove forests, is similar to G. pattani Swennen, 1996 in body shape, but it is easily distinguished by having a pattern of yellow dots and a conspicuous white glandular structure on its posterior end.

Gosliner et al. (2018) recorded this species from Australia and Thailand and we provide the first record from New Caledonia herein.
