Subspecies: G. g. gazella (Pallas, 1766) .
Distribution: Uncertain status, apparently rare; confined to the mountainous habitat in northwest and southwest of Syria ( Fig. 105 View FIGURE 105 ).
Previous records: Khneiz ( Misonne 1957); Jabal Druze (Houran mount) ( Groves & Lay 1985), and Mount Hermon ( Evans 1994).
Remarks: This species may still exist in southwestern Syria (see Evans 1994). Unverified record of a hunted G. gazella was reported south of Hadar in 1991. It is worth mentioning that this species still occurs in Hatay Province (Iskenderun) in eastern Turkey (see Çoğala & Sözenb 2017) which may have occurred in northwestern Syria in the past.
