DALICARIS VERESHCHAKA & LUNINA , GEN. NOV.

Diagnosis: Integument membraneous; carapace with developed branchiostegal spine set on anterior margin, no hepatic spine; pleon with fourth to sixth somites dorsally carinate, fourth somite posteriorly entire, sixth somite with posterodorsal curvature; telson with posterior, triangular end-piece between apical spines, with two to three pairs of moveable dorsolateral spines and a single pair of apical spines. First maxilliped with exopod distally gently tapering to tip; second maxilliped expanded moderately, more than three times as long as broad; third maxilliped with subrectangular dactylus, bearing several strong spines at tip. First pereopod with basis and ischium unarmed; fourth and fifth pereopods with dactyl slender, entire. Thelycum without median tooth on S6 or S8, S6 with a pair of posterior setose protuberances, S7 as a suboval scutum directed forward and covered with solitary sensory setae. Petasma with PM bearing long lashes set in numerous rows to form a grasping structure, PE not distally produced.

Species included: Dalicaris altus (Spence Bate, 1881) , comb. nov.
Type species: Benthesicymus altus Spence Bate, 1881 , by monotypy.
Etymology: After the artist Salvador Dalí and from Greek καρίς, shrimp; a reference to a characteristic petasma, which resembles paintings of this prominent Spanish surrealist.
Authorship of generic name: The phylogenetic basis for the erection of this genus was prepared by Vereshchaka & Lunina, who are thus solely responsible for making the generic name Dalicaris available.
Geographical distribution: South Atlantic, Indo-West Pacific, eastern Pacific.
