[ Cryptopteryx rufipes ] Havrylenko & Winterhalter, 1949: 49. Nomen nudum.

Trachysphyrus rufipes Porter, 1967: 193–194 . Fixation of the type.

Distribution. Neotropical; Chile: Región del Maule ( Porter 1967b); Región de La Araucanía ( Porter 1967b).

Comments. Havrylenko & Winterhalter (1949: 49) proposed the name Cryptopteryx rufipes based on a drawing but without providing any description, failing to fulfill ICZN (1999: article 13.1), and therefore creating an unavailable name (nomen nudum). Later on, Townes & Townes (1966: 73) designated a lectotype for the same name which however should be considered an invalid lectotype designation as there could be no type for an unavailable name. Porter (1967b: 192–193), while citing Trachysphyrus rufipes ( Havrylenko & Winterhalter, 1949) , described the species for the first time and therefore he validly proposed a name for the species: Trachysphyrus rufipes Porter, 1967 . Porter (1967b) based his description on a single specimen, the invalid lectotype designated by Townes & Townes (1966); Porter (1967b) claimed that among what Townes & Townes (1966) erroneously considered as the type series there are multiple species “ in addition to type ”; therefore Porter (1967b) described the species Trachysphyrus rufipes on a single specimen which is the holotype by original designation (ICZN 1999: article 73.1.1). Subsequent authors (e.g., Lanfranco 1980) have considered erroneously the invalid lectotype designation by Townes & Townes (1966) as valid designation for Trachysphyrus rufipes Porter, 1967 .

Porter (1967b) also reports the species for “ Central Chile ”.
