Diagnosis

Anterolateral margin of snout incompletely supported by bone; subopercle produced into slender flap; D1 II, 8-9; P i, 15-19; scales below mid-base D1 3.5-4.5; pyloric caeca 39-50; preorbital length 39-43% of head length; orbit diameter 1.35-1.78 in preorbital length; interorbital 20-23% of head length; upper jaw length 29-33% of head length; barbell length 7-13% of head length; nasal fossa covered with small scales ( Iwamoto and Anderson, 1994).

Western Indian Ocean: South Africa to southern Mozambique; Madagascar; Réunion ( Fig. 2E View Figure 2 ).
