Diagnosis

Body either uniformly black, or countershaded. Dorsal and anal fins without black margins posteriorly to the caudal filament. Teeth small. Postorbital pores 3-20; preopercular pores 2-18. Precaudal vertebrae 5-12 ( Nielsen and Smith, 1978).

Distribution

Circumglobal in tropical and temperate seas (including Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, western Mediterranean Sea, South China Sea, East China Sea, Gulf of California/ Mexico) ( Fig. 2D View Figure 2 ).
