Diagnosis

Body rounded, head and mouth broad. Upper jaw teeth with erect, dagger-like cusp and several smaller lateral cusplets; lower teeth a single band of overlapping blade-like teeth. Dermal denticles erect, thorn-like, scattered over head, flank and belly; base of dorsal fins with a naked area. Pho- tophore pattern on belly obscured, poorly defined. Dorsal fins about equal in size and height; each fin bearing a strong spine, the second following the contour of anterior margin of fin. Pectoral fins lobate; caudal fin well developed, with sub- terminal notch, lower lobe well developed ( Last and Stewart, 2015).

Distribution

Southern Hemisphere: Southwestern and southeastern Atlantic; southern Indian Ocean; southwestern and southeastern Pacific ( Fig. 2C View Figure 2 ).
