Camponotus (Myrmamblys) annulatus Karawajew, 1929c: 238 View in CoL , Fig. 4, s, w.
Current status: Camponotus annulatus .
Type locality(-ies): “Ins. Wammar, Aru-Archip., 10.III.1918 (Nr. 2578), einige Soldaten und ww”.
Original Karawajew labels: 3 w, “Wammar, / Aru. Kara- / vaiev”, “240. Coll. / Karavaievi ”, “ Camponotus / (Myrmamblys) / annulatus Kar. / typus”, “Syntypus Camponotus / (Myrmamblys) an- / nulatus Karawajew”. 7 w, “240. Coll. / Karavaievi”, “ Syntypus Camponotus / (Myrmamblys) an- / nulatus Karawajew” .
Material: “ SYNTYPES ”, 10 w (CASENT0917165) (Box 34).
Note. Karawajew (1929c) gave the number of syntypes in the C. annulatus series as “2578”, but in the collection the number of syntypes is 240. On the other hand, in the collection of the natural History Museum Basel (collection of F. Santschi) there are syntype workers of C. annulatus with original labels from Karawajew that read “2578. Coll. / Karavaievi”(see CASENT0911656 and0911657).We cannot explain this discrepancy, but based on Recommendation 72B of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN 1999), we conclude the specimens from SIZK No. 240 are part of the type series. In addition, in Karawajew’s collection there are 6 gynes with the labels “240. Coll. / Karavaievi”, “ Syntypus / Camponotus (Myrmamblys) an- / nulatus Karawajew” (see CASENT0917166) which formally cannot be syntypes, since this species was described based on workers and one soldier.
