Lectotype (Galen Smith & Kukkonen in Taxon 48: 356. 1999): Herb. Celsius 2: 212 ( UPS) . - Epitype (Galen Smith & Kukkonen in Taxon 48: 356. 1999): Sweden. E. Roslagen, par. Börstill, 2km W Kallö, near Husbacka, 14 Oct 1995, Nilsson 9515 (UPS; iso- BM, H, MO, NU, NY).

Current name: Bolboschoenus maritimus (L.) Palla View in CoL ( Cyperaceae ).

Note: Koyama (in Canad. J. Bot. 40: 933. 1962), probably preceded by Beetle (in Amer. J. Bot. 29: 85. 1942 - "Type in the Linnaean Herbarium"), designated the North American Clayton 570 (71.43 LINN) as lectotype, which is a specimen of S. robustus Pursh. Galen Smith & Kukkonen (in Taxon 48: 355. 1999) rejected this choice of type on the grounds that Linnaeus was describing a European taxon, not a North American one.
