Physarum spectabile has been observed to be a very common species in other regions, for instance in Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Valley in Mexico (Estrada Torres et al. 2009) and Monte Desert in Argentina ( Lado et al. 2011). This species is generally found on species of Copiapoa , Eulychnia , and Opuntia . In the Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Valley, it has been reported on Agave , Myrtillocactus , Neobuxbaumia , Opuntia , and Pachycereus . In this study it was found on cladodes of Opuntia rufida .
