"Habitat in Europa, Canada, Virginia, Jamaica, Zeylona, Japonia." RCN: 7154.

Lectotype (Rechinger, Fl. Iranica 164: 39. 1989): Herb. Linn. No. 1113.1 ( LINN) .

Generitype of Xanthium Linnaeus (vide Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 188. 1929).

Current name: Xanthium strumarium L. var. strumarium View in CoL ( Asteraceae ).

Note: Löve & Dansereau (in Canad. J. Bot. 37: 174. 1959) discussed the material in LINN, and illustrated sheet 1113.1 (as their f. 1). However, in their opinion this did "not represent a Linnaean type collection".
