Description of the male

Body. – Body long, narrow, parallel ( Fig. 8 View Fig ). Measurements of the body (mm): TL 2.9, EW 1.4.

Coloration. – Head dark brown; pronotum dark brown, shiny, with sparse brown and white setation; elytra brown with sparse brown and white setation; antennae brown; legs brown.

Head. –Coarsely punctate, sparsely covered with short, white setation. Palpomeres dark brown. Eyes very large, with yellow microsetae. Ocellus on front present. Antennae brown, with short, yellow setation, composed of 11 antennomeres ( Fig. 10 View Fig ).

Pronotum. – Shiny,finelypunctate,darkbrown,lateralmarginsofpronotum smooth.

Scutellum . – Dark brown, triangular, without setation.

Elytra. – Shiny, brown, with narrow, transverse fasciae of white setation, other parts covered by sparse brown setation; each elytron with large bump on humerus. Epipleuron brown, covered by brown setation.

Ventral surface. – Mesosternum and metasternum covered with white setation, finely punctate. Abdominal ventrites dark brown, finely punctate, sparsely covered with recumbent white setation; ventrites II-IV with small, lateral depression.

Legs. – Dark brown, covered with recumbent, white setation.

Male genitalia. – As in Fig. 12 View Fig .

Female. – Habitus similar to male, but differs in the structure of the antennae ( Fig. 11 View Fig ) and broad white fasciae of the elytra ( Fig. 9 View Fig ). Measurements of the body (mm): TL 3.3, EW 1.7.

Differential diagnosis. – The new species is similar to Trogoderma quadrifasciatum Broun, 1893 but differs from it by the structure of the antennae and male genitalia, and from other New Zealand species by the elytral and pronotal white patterns and the structure of the antennae and male genitalia.

Etymology. – Patronymic, named after the collector of the new species R. C. Craw.
