In Hime japonica a small cartilaginous area can be seen at the lower distal edge of hypural 3 ( Fig. 18D View Figure 18 ). However, there is no indication that this cartilaginous structure represents an entity comparable to a CMC. It appears to belong directly to hypural 3, thus there are no CMCs present in this species.
