Etymology: For Hans Tore Rapp, in recognition of his important contribution to Calcarea taxonomy.
Diagnosis: Sponge tubular, not anastomosed, with single osculum. Cortex composed of triactines and/or tetractines much larger than those of the choanosome, which has an articulated but disorganized skeleton. Atrial skeleton thin and interrupted by large exhalant canals. Aquiferous system kladonoid.
Type species: Rappya australiensis gen. nov., sp. nov.
