Aenetus Herrich-Schäffer View in CoL
Moderate to large wingspan, predominantly green forewings with brown or white markings, some with yellowish to reddish brown ground colour. Male forewing with distinct tornus. Antenna short, but longer than head, filiform. Hindleg with androconial scale tuft. Male genitalia with membranous fultura superior (trulleum), auriform pseudotegumen bordering anogenital region, valva large (relative to pseudotegumen) with 1–3 hooks or spines, disto-posterior arm of saccus (vinculum) broad, extending over base of valva. Female sternum VIII membranous or weakly sclerotized, merged with sternum VII, lamella antevaginalis not subdivided. These features are derived from Simonsen’s (2018: 123) diagnosis of Australian Aenetus , but are applicable for all previously described species of the genus (cf. Dugdale 1994, Boudinot 1991, Salesne 2010, Beaver et al. 2020).
Monophyly of Aenetus is supported two uniquely shared morphological features:
1. Tergosternal sclerite with narrowly triangular tergosternal bar, not completely fused with central region of tergosternal sclerite (cf. Grehan 2012)
2. Auriform shape of the pseudotegumen ( Simonsen 2018).
