Type:— PERU. Junín: Prov. Satipo, Distr. Pampa Hermosa; Anexo Calabaza, Tramo Calabaza-Toldopampa , 3231 m, 23 November 2013, Y . Gutiérrez OJSYGU 190 ( holotype: USM! isotype: MOL!) .
Distribution:— Peru, in the department of Junín. The species is known only from central Peru, in the eastern cordillera of the Andes, in humid montane forests.
Notes:— Epidendrum jose-alvarezii is similar to E. ardens but is easily recognized by the carmine red lip with the disc yellow ( vs. flowers concolor from scarlet red or orange to rarely yellow or red brown), the sepals spreading ( vs. sepals partly spreading, nearly parallel to the column), petals linear-oblanceolate, descending, hidden behind the lip ( vs. petals linear, partly spreading, nearly parallel to the column), and the lip sub-3-lobed ( vs. lip entire).
Conservation Status:— DD. Data Deficient. Since the type collection in 2013, no new collections have been recorded .
