Type:— COSTA RICA. [ Alajuela:] San Pedro de San Ramón, November 1921, A.M. Brenes 173 ( lectotype, designated by Barringer (1986: 11): AMES 28832 !, isolectotypes: CR 26035 !, NY barcode 9100 !, NY barcode 9101 !).
Notes: —The material used by Schlechter (1923) to describe N. brenesii was destroyed in Berlin during World War II ( Butzin 1978, 1980). Barringer (1986) designated the material deposited at AMES as a lectotype and other material deposited at the herbaria CR and NY as isolectotypes.
