Present status. Eucosma gracilis (Filipjev, 1924) , stat. rev.
Comments. In Gilligan et al. (2018), the type locality was given imprecisely as “Siberia” and the holotype sex was marked as “unknown”.
Taxonomic notes. Gilligan et al. (2018) referred to the holotype as the type specimen; however, no holotype was designated in the original description. The species was synonymized with wimmerana Treitschke, 1835 , likely by Kuznetzov (e.g., 1978), and subsequent works followed this synonymy. My examination of the type and non-type material of gracilis , as well as a series of specimens of wimmerana from Siberia in the ZISP collection, reveals that although the male genitalia of gracilis are generally very similar to those of wimmerana (e.g., as illustrated in Razowski 2003), consistent differences can be observed in the shape of the valva and wing coloration. These characters are considered here as the basis for rejecting the previously established synonymy and treating gracilis as a distinct species (stat. rev.). However, molecular data are needed to confirm this status for gracilis . Forewing ground color of gracilis dark ochreous, lighter nearby costal edge, whereas in wimmerana ground colour grey with whitish scales forming thin longitudinal lines. Costal strigulae in gracilis short, distinct only on costa; in wimmerana costal strigulae longer, merged distally. Median fascia not defined in gracilis wing pattern, but in wimmerana it forms dorsal whitish spot. In male genitalia of gracilis ventral edge of sacculus forms obtuse angle, valvae neck shorter than sacculus, arched ventrally. In wimmerana ventral edge of sacculus forms almost 90-degree angle, valvae neck almost as long as sacculus with parallel edges and less rounded ventrally.
