Type material: HOLOTYPE ♂ labelled as follow: Macapá , Amapá, Brasil [= Brazil] / Quilombo Mel da Pedreira / área de savana [savanna environment] / 15.VI.2019 / leg. F.S. Carvalho-Filho / Armadilha luminosa [= light trap] ( MPEG).
Measurements: Male Holotype. Total length: 1.04 mm; width between eyes: 0.19 mm; pronotum length: 0.21 mm; pronotum width: 0.49 mm; scutellum length: 0.14 mm; abdominal width: 0.54 mm.
Diagnosis. Recognized among species of Schizoptera ( Cantharocoris) by the dark brown coloration and light brown wing membrane; sternum 6 with a broad and rounded posterior process ( Figure 3C View FIGURE 3 , black arrow); subgenital plate with a tiny process with bifid tip ( Figure 3C View FIGURE 3 , white arrow); right conjunctival appendage elongate and slender, with distal portion bearing tiny spine-like projections ( Figure 3D View FIGURE 3 ), left conjunctival appendage short and plate-like ( Figure 3D View FIGURE 3 ), right paramere very long and curved, with narrowed distal portion, left paramere with enlarged base and narrowed and a strongly curved distal portion ( Figure 3D View FIGURE 3 ).
Description. Male ( Figure 2 View FIGURE 2 ): macropterous, body ovate. Coloration: generally dark brown, light brown membrane, Sc+C distinctly lighter than the remainder of hemelytra, legs yellow. Surface and vestiture: head, pronotum, and wing veins covered with long, light brown setae; several circular muscle scars on head; abdomen densely covered with elongate setae. Structure: Head: triangular in frontal view, synthlipsis about three times the width of the eye. Thorax: posterior pronotal margin weakly concave medially, scutellum triangular, with a rounded tip, hind coxa with well-developed adhesive pad, tarsal formula 3-3-3. Abdomen: Sternum 6 with a pigmented broad and rounded posterior process, sternum 7 with a pigmented broad and rounded process in the anterolateral corner of the left side, subgenital plate with a tiny process with bifid tip posteriorly directed ( Figure 3C View FIGURE 3 ). Genitalia ( Figure 3D View FIGURE 3 ): Right conjunctival appendage elongate and slender, with distal portion bearing tiny spine-like projections; left conjunctival appendage short and plate-like; right paramere very long and curved, with narrowed distal portion; left paramere with enlarged base and narrowed and strongly curved distal portion; vesica very long, looping, moderately slender, with 2–3 coils.
Etymology. Named after the savanna environment where the type-specimens were collected.
Distribution. Brazil ( Amapá).
Remarks. The new species differs from all other described species of the subgenus Cantharocoris in having the following combination of features: sternum 6 with a pigmented broad and rounded posterior process, sternum 7 with a pigmented broad and rounded process in the anterolateral corner of left side, and subgenital plate with tiny process with bifid tip. Schizoptera ( Cantharocoris) grandi Emsley, 1969 and Schizoptera ( Cantharocoris) apatosulcata Emsley, 1969 , both from Trinidad & Tobago, also have subgenital plate with the process with bifid tip, but it is anteriorly directed, while in the new species the process is posteriorly directed. However, the sterna 6 and 7 of these species lack the pigmented broad and rounded process.
