Genus Shizuka View in CoL
Shizuka Matsumura, 1914: 297 View in CoL ; Chou et al. 1985: 55; Yang & Wu, 1994: 16.
Type species: Shizuka formosana
Description. Head and thorax. Head including eyes narrower than pronotum, round in lateral view. Vertex triangular, wide basally and narrow apically, somewhat beyond anterior margin of eyes, lateral marginal carinae elevated, without median carina. Frons extremely narrow, with lateral marginal carinae contiguous almost throughout. Postclypeus triangular, slightly shorter than or equal to frons in length, disc slightly elevated, with a longitudinal median carina and two longitudinal lateral carinae. Rostrum somewhat stout and short, with apical segment expanded, reaching or slightly exceeding coxae of hind legs. Eyes developed, with ventral margin obviously concave inwards, anterior apical angle strongly protruded to near apex of frons; ocelli present. Antennae with pedicel twice longer than widest part and shorter than or equal to frons, subcylindrical, narrow basally and expanded distad, with minute sensilla, without subantennal processes. Pronotum short at middle, anterior margin angularly convex and posterior margin roundly concave, lateral carinae obscure, lateral parts expand to patagium-like. Mesonotum large and diamond, with a longitudinal median carina and two longitudinal lateral carinae, disc raised apparently. Tegmina elongate, expanded distad, widest at middle to subapical part, costal margin relatively straight with sensory pits in basal half, posterior margin arched, apical margin slightly straight, jugal margin protruded; often three veinlets connecting ScP+R and ScP+RA to costal margin; ScP+RA separating from RP about middle of tegmina and significantly distad of CuA forking; RA 2 and RP 1 more or less undulate; RP 2 with two short and straight branches; MP with six forks, MP 3+4 simple, five parallel veinlets connect every two branches of MP except for two apical branches; CuA forked near middle, and then CuA 1 fused with CuA 2 near apex to form a common stem and then extending to posterior margin, cell 5 present and small (or CuA simple, cell 5 absent); clavus open, narrow and elongate, expanded apically; Pcu connected with A 1 at basal third of clavus; Pcu+A 1 connected with CuP at middle of clavus. Wings slightly shorter than half of tegmina and round at apex, CuA with two branches, MP with two or three branches, stridulatory plate present with convex outer margin. Metatibiotarsal formulae: (4–5)-(5–8)-(6–9).
Male terminalia. Anal tube narrow and long, in dorsal view, subrectangular, constricted at apex, with anal stylus at middle, in lateral view, dorsal margin convex dorsad near base, dorsolateral margin slightly elevated from basal third to subapical part. Pygofer narrow in profile, without medioventral process. Gonostylus narrow and long, often bifurcated apically, with an internal process near dorsal base, covering long setae on surface and often bearing a hook-shaped process near apex. Phallic complex moderately short and stout, asymmetrical, with most processes on left side (Revised from Matsumura 1914 and Yang & Wu 1994).
Female genitalia reduced.
Distribution. Oriental region.
