Type data: This species was described based on an undetermined number of females collected in Saint Vincent Island, Lesser Antilles. A single specimen was found at NHMUK being here designated the lectotype. The exemplar has the following data label: Type H. T. [red-rimmed circular label, printed]\ S. Vincent [handwritten]\ B.M. TYPE HYM. [printed] 17B.926. [handwritten]\ Centris elegans Smith Type S! Vincent. [light blue, handwritten]\ F. Sm. Coll. 79·22 [printed] Type [handwritten]. The lectotype is in good condition and is coded NHMUK 010812616 in the NHMUK data portal.

Type locality: Saint Vincent and the Grenadines : Saint Vincent Island .

Comment: This species was correctly interpreted by Moure (1960) and Moure et al. (2007).
