Type host: cattle scutatum Neumann, 1899 View in CoL , Amblyomma
Neumann, L.G. (1899) Révision de la famille des ixodidés (3 e mémoire). Mémoires de la Société Zoologique de France, 12, 107–294.
Type depositories: BMNH and ZSH: syntypes (males and females) ( Neumann 1899, Keirans & Hillyard 2001) Type localities: Champerico, Guatemala; Hamburg Zoo, Germany
Type hosts: undetermined lizard, Iguana tuberculata, and Virginia deer
Comments: a syntype specimen of Amblyomma scutatum was collected from a Virginia deer in Germany, but it most probably originated in America because the range of this species encompasses the Neotropical and Nearctic Regions ( Guglielmone et al. 2021). There are discrepancies among the morphological definitions of Amblyomma scutatum , and redescription of the type material may contribute to a better understanding of this species, as discussed in Guglielmone et al. (2020, 2021).
