Canestrini, G. & Fanzago, F. (1878) Intorno agli acari italiani. Atti del Reale Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti, Serie 5, 4, 69–208.

Type depository: not stated: syntypes (females and larvae)

Type locality: Italy

Type host: Lacerta viridis

Comments: Canestrini & Fanzago (1878) named a lizard ( Lacerta viridis ) as the type host for Haemaphysalis sulcata . However, it is uncertain whether that host is for females and larvae, or only the larvae of Haemaphysalis sulcata , which usually parasitize lizards, while females parasitize mammals (Guglielmone et al. 2014). Guglielmone et al. (2020) treated the morphological definitions of Haemaphysalis sulcata as unclear.
