Dönitz, W. (1906) Über afrikanische Zecken. Sitzungsberichten der Gesellschaft Naturforschender Freunde zu Berlin, 5, 143–148.

Type depository: ZMB: a lectotype (female) was designated in Walker et al. (1988)

Type locality: Kalahari , Botswana ? Namibia ?

Type host: free-living specimen

Comments: Moritz & Fischer (1981) listed a holotype and ten paratypes of Rhipicephalus tricuspis , deposited in the ZMB, but Walker et al. (1988) stated that this tick was described from one male and a female with no holotype designation, also indicating that the original series contains specimens of Rhipicephalus lunulatus and Rhipicephalus tricuspis . Moritz & Fischer (1981) recorded the tick later designated as lectotype as having been found in Namibia, but Walker et al. (1988) believed that it was collected in Botswana.
