Type depositories: USNTC: holotype (male) and paratypes (males, a female, nymphs and larvae) ; BMNH?, FMNH, MCZ, MNHN and OVI: paratypes (males, nymphs and larvae)
Type locality: Bemangidy , Poste Mananteina, Fort Dauphin, Madagascar
Type host: Tenrec ecaudatus
Comments: Keirans & Hillyard (2001) stated that there is no evidence that paratypes of Haemaphysalis theilerae were deposited in the BMNH.
