Type host: undetermined

Current status: a synonym of Hyalomma marginatum , as discussed in Apanaskevich & Horak (2008b).

Comments: the original syntype series of Hyalomma marginatum balcanicum contained a male and three females, but Apanaskevich & Horak (2008b) found that the male and one female were, in fact, Hyalomma excavatum .
