Type depository: BMNH: a lectotype (male) and paralectotypes (males and females) were designated by Keirans & Brewster (1981)

Type locality: near Fort Mlangeni , Ncheu District, Malawi

Type host: Tragelaphus strepsiceros

Current status: a synonym of Rhipicephalus punctatus and its original name ( Walker et al. 2000). The current status of Rhipicephalus neavei punctatus , as Rhipicephalus punctatus , was established by Santos Dias (1951).
