philipi Cooley & Kohls, 1939 View in CoL , Amblyomma
Cooley, R.A. & Kohls, G.M. (1939) Amblyomma philipi – a new tick from Texas and Mexico, with a key to known species of Amblyomma in the United States. Public Health Reports, 54, 44–47.
Type depository: USNTC: holotype (female) and paratypes (males and females)
Type locality: Kingsville , Texas, USA
Type host: “rabbit”
Current status: a synonym of Amblyomma inornatum ( Cooley & Kohls 1944, Camicas et al. 1998).
Comments. Cooley & Kohls (1939) stated that the holotype had been deposited in the USNTC under accession number 14069; however, in their catalog of USNTC types, Keirans & Clifford (1984) listed paratypes but not the holotype of Amblyomma philipi as being in that collection, including the specimen under accession number 14069. One of us (SN) examined the specimen under that number and found that its data agree with those of Cooley & Kohls (1939); accordingly, this tick is treated here as the holotype of Amblyomma philipi .
