Roberts, F.H.S. (1953) The Australian species of Aponomma and Amblyomma (Ixodoidea) . Australian Journal of Zoology, 1, 111–161.
Type depositories: QM: holotype (male) and paratype (female); ARI: a paratype (male)
Type locality: Rockhampton , Queensland, Australia
Type host: Varanus sp.
Current status: a synonym of Amblyomma flavomaculatum Kaufman (1972 , under the genus Aponomma ) ( Guglielmone & Nava 2014).
Comments: Amblyomma flavomaculatum is an Afrotropical species and Aponomma pulchrum was found in Australia (Australasian Zoogeographic Region). Kaufman (1972) considered the Australian origin of Aponomma pulchrum accidental. Nevertheless, Santos Dias (1993) treated this name as valid, and Camicas et al. (1998) believed it to be a synonym of Amblyomma gervaisi , under the genus Aponomma .
