Dönitz, W. (1910) Die Zecken Südafrikas. Denkschriften der Medizinisch-Naturwissenschaftlichen Gesellschaft zu Jena, 16, 397–494.

Type depository: BMNH: syntypes (males) ( Keirans & Hillyard 2001)

Type locality: Namibia? South Africa? ( Keirans 1985, Walker et al. 2000, Keirans & Hillyard 2001)

Type host: probably cattle

Comments: Keirans (1985) listed Namibia as the type locality. Keirans & Hillyard (2001) also listed Namibia as the type locality, but they appear unconvinced about its presence there, stating that Rhipicephalus follis is “known only from the Republic of South Africa and Swaziland.” Walker et al. (2000, page 185) believe that the type locality is South Africa.
