Type depositories: NIAH: holotype (male) and paratypes (males, females, nymphs and larvae) ( Kitaoka 1970) ; USNTC: a paratype (developmental stage not specified) ( Keirans & Clifford 1984)

Type locality: Shizuoka Prefectural Cattle Breeding Experiment Station , near Fujinomiya, Shizuoka, Japan

Type host: Holstein calf

Comments: the holotype specimen was obtained from laboratory material derived from an engorged female of Haemaphysalis fujisana collected from a Holstein calf.
