geayi Neumann, 1899 View in CoL , Amblyomma
Neumann, L.G. (1899) Révision de la famille des ixodidés (3 e mémoire). Mémoires de la Société Zoologique de France, 12, 107–294.
Type depository: MNHN: syntypes (males) ( Guglielmone et al. 2003)
Type localities: Pará , Brazil , and Darién, Colombia in Neumann (1899), but “ Darién ” is probably currently located in Panama rather than in Colombia
Type host: not stated
Comments: Santos Dias (1961), Camicas et al. (1998) and others treated Amblyomma geayi as a synonym of Ixodes perpunctatus . It is a nomen dubium in Fairchild et al. (1966) and Guglielmone et al. (2014), but type comparisons may help settle the status of this name ( Guglielmone et al. 2021). Guglielmone et al. (2003) stated that a syntype was found in the MCZ, but in fact the specimen in the MCZ corresponds to Ixodes perpunctatus with an added label “appears to be = Amblyomma geayi ” (http://mczbase.mcz.harvard.edu/ accessed 22 May 2022). This was confirmed during KLC, IR and RGR‘s visit to the MCZ in 2024.
