Neumann, L.G. (1899) Révision de la famille des ixodidés (3 e mémoire). Mémoires de la Société Zoologique de France, 12, 107–294.

Type depositories: BMNH: syntypes (a male and females), USNPC?, ZMB and ZSH: syntypes (females)

Type locality: Queensland , and Port Stephens , New South Wales, Australia

Type host: dog, sheep and Phascogale penicillata

Comments: nymphs from India and the East Indies are included in the original description, but the nymph deposited in the BMNH is not Ixodes holocyclus ( Keirans & Hillyard 2001) ; this is also true for the remaining type nymphs because Ixodes holocyclus is known only from Australia. One nymph deposited in the IP and classified by Neumann (1899) as Ixodes holocyclus from India is, in fact, a specimen of Ixodes petauristae , as discussed in Sénevet (1970). In their catalog of USNPC types, Salley et al. (1978) did not recognize specimens of Ixodes holocyclus .
