Type depositories: MCZ and USNTC: syntypes (females) ( Keirans & Clifford (1984) listed these specimens as “cotypes”) .
Type locality: Berkeley Hills , California, USA .
Type host: Otospermophilus beecheyi
Current status: a synonym of Ixodes sculptus , as discussed in Guglielmone & Nava (2014).
Comments: Keirans & Clifford (1984) did not list the developmental stages deposited in the USNTC, but Ixodes aequalis was described from female ticks.
